Curriculum 2018/19

Year 7

All students follow a similar curriculum with a choice of a Modern Foreign Language being the difference in an individual’s personal timetable.

Art (2 periods per week) , Drama (1 ppw), English (3 ppw), Games/PE (3 ppw), Geography (2 ppw), History (2 ppw), Mathematics (3 ppw), Music (1 ppw), PHSCE (1 ppw), Religious Studies (1 ppw), Science (4 ppw), Technology (3 ppw).

Modern Foreign Language (4 ppw):  A choice between Chinese, French or Spanish.

Total:  30 ppw

Year 8

All students follow a similar curriculum apart from a further choice of a second Modern Foreign Language being the difference in an individual’s personal timetable.

Art (1 period per week), Computing (2 ppw), Design & Technology (3 ppw), Drama (1 ppw), Games/PE (3 ppw),  Geography (2 ppw), History (1 ppw), Music (1 ppw), PHSCE (1 ppw),    Religious Studies (1 ppw).

Modern Foreign Languages:  First Language from Year 7 (2 ppw)

Second Language (3 ppw):  A further choice from Chinese, French, German, Italian, Latin or Spanish. 

Setting by Ability in English (3 ppw), Mathematics (3 ppw), Science (3 ppw).

Total:  30 ppw

Year 9

All students follow a similar curriculum apart from a choice of a Design & Technology, Computing or Economics as their early entry GCSE and two Modern Foreign Languages studied in Year 8 being the difference in an individual’s personal timetable.

Art (2 periods per week), Drama (1 ppw), Games/PE (3 ppw), Geography (1 ppw), History (2 ppw), Music (1 ppw), PHSCE (1 ppw), Religious Studies (2 ppw)

Modern Foreign Languages (4 ppw):  Each MFL is taught on 2 ppw.

Early Entry GCSE (3 ppw):  A choice between Computing, Economics or a Design & Technology – options include Electronics, Food, Graphics and Product Design.

Setting by Ability in English (3 ppw), Mathematics (3 ppw), Science (4 ppw)

Total:  30 ppw

Year 10

Students follow a core curriculum at GCSE  and have the option to choose subjects that personalise their curriculum.

The core curriculum includes English (4 ppw) set by ability, Mathematics (4 ppw) set by ability, Games (2 ppw), PHSCE (1 ppw) and Religious Studies (1 ppw) which is completed as a GCSE at the end of the year.

The early entry GCSE started in Year 9 is completed at the end of Year 10.  (3 ppw)

Science is offered as the Separate Sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics taught on 6 ppw and is set by ability. 

Three Option Choices, each on 3 ppw are selected from: Art, Chinese, Computing, Drama, Economics,  French, Geography, German, History, Latin, Music, PE, Spanish .

Total : 30 ppw

Year 11 

Students continue to follow a core curriculum and their chosen options at GCSE.

The core curriculum includes English (5 ppw) set by ability, Mathematics (4 ppw) set by ability, Games (2 ppw), PHSCE (1 ppw).

Separate Sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics continue to be taught on 6 ppw and is set by ability. 

Three Option Choices continued from Year 10 each taught on 4 ppw continue from the previous year.

Total : 30 ppw

Year 12 & 13

Students opt for minimum of Three A Levels plus an enrichment such as the EPQ, Games, Mentoring and Life Skills.

Subject Choices are made from a list of over 30 subjects detailed in the Sixth Form Prospectus.

Entry requirements for each course are also detailed there too.

Each Advanced course is taught  on 7 periods per week with the remainder of the time designated to directed study and enrichment options.
