Sport

Beths Grammar School offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and sports for students of all abilities to get involved in. This includes both specific team training for each year group, and recreational games for those who enjoy socialising with their peers through sport.

During the Autumn and Spring term the extra-curricular clubs predominantly focus on Football, Rugby and Basketball. After Easter, the focus then moves onto summer sports with Cricket, Tennis and Athletics. In addition to these, there is ample opportunity for all students to get involved in lunch-time clubs such as Table Tennis, Badminton and Volleyball.

The days of which each club are ran can vary, however here is an example of the weekly schedule during the first term:

Monday:  Year 7, 8, 9 and First XV Rugby Team Training

Tuesday:  Volleyball for All Years

Wednesday: Year 8 and 9 lunch-time Basketball Training, Year 7 Football after school, U19 Basketball Squad Training

Thursday:  Year 10 & 11 lunch-time Basketball Training, Year 7 Rugby Training (Team and Recreational) After School, U14 Basketball Training

Friday:  Lunchtime Table Tennis Club

Fixtures

There are several sporting fixtures for each year group throughout the year, which include both friendly and cup matches.

Year 7: There are both A & B team sides for Football and Rugby. The rugby matches are friendly fixtures against schools across Kent, where the furthest is Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, Canterbury. The matches are full-contact and take place on weekdays and also Saturday mornings. As well as friendly fixtures, the Football sides are entered into the North Kent, Kent Cup (KSFA) and National (ESFA) competitions. There is also a Basketball Team which is entered into a North Kent League, Jr NBA and the Kent Cup.

Years 8 – 11: There is a Football and Rugby team for each year group, where both sides have friendly fixtures throughout the term. The Rugby team is entered into the National Cup, and the Football sides are entered into the North Kent, Kent (KSFA) and National (ESFA) Cup. Last year Beths Grammar School was successful in the Rugby National Bowl with the current Year 11’s, and the Football National Cup with the current Year 10’s, where the finals were played at Sixways Stadium and Goodison Park.

There is also a Basketball Team for Year 7, 8 & 9, which are entered into a North Kent League, and the Kent Cup, and all year groups participate in the Bexley Athletics Championships.

Sixth Form: There are two Football teams 1st XI and 2nd XI, a 1st XI Basketball team and a 1st XV Rugby team for the Sixth Form. The Football team is entered into a North Kent League, ESFA competition, Kent League and Kent Cup  and the Rugby First XV takes part in the National Cup.

Inter-House Sport

In addition to such a wide range of extra-curricular activities, students also have the opportunity to take part in the Inter-house Competitions throughout the year, where each form group play each other to earn House Points. This includes Football, Rugby, Basketball, Tennis and Table Tennis. This is finalised nicely with Sports Day at the end of the year, where all students and teachers are involved, and parents are welcome to attend.
